ILDS Member Alert | WHO call for contributions on the optimal formulation characteristics of therapeutic broad-spectrum sunscreen

I am writing to share a call for contributions on the optimal formulation characteristics of therapeutic broad-spectrum sunscreen, received from the WHO.

In 2025, broad-spectrum sunscreen was added to the WHO Model Lists of Essential Medicines for skin cancer prevention in persons with albinism. However, formulation characteristics – such as active ingredients and their concentrations, optimal SPF, UVA and UVB protection and pharmaceutical forms – could not be defined at that time. Defining these formulation characteristics in the Essential Medicines List (EML) is important to support countries in selecting optimal sunscreen formulations for inclusion on national essential medicines lists and to guide public procurement.

To address this gap, the WHO has issued a call for contributions on the optimal formulation characteristics of therapeutic broad-spectrum sunscreen. Input received will inform a submission for consideration by the Expert Committee in 2027.

The objective is to ensure broad and inclusive outreach and to engage scientific and clinical experts; regulatory, public health, and industry actors; and community and civil society stakeholders with relevant expertise or lived experience.

Your expertise would be invaluable to this effort. Please feel free to circulate it within your network of individuals with relevant expertise.

2026年度好醫生名單揭曉！
《康健雜誌》× 29大醫學會
表彰跨界實踐醫師，迎戰超高齡社會
【新聞稿敬請發佈】

第4屆〈年度好醫生〉名單公布！《康健雜誌》聯手全台29個專科醫學會，以「跨界」為主軸，從「跨專科」、「跨社區」、「跨領域」三大面向出發，並以「醫術醫德」、「國際聲譽」、「與時精進」為特質評估，選出29位好醫生。

入選者多出自醫學中心，另有2位來自診所。他們不僅臨床表現出色，也跨出專科界線、整合多元資源，回應超高齡社會下更複雜的照護挑戰，為醫療現場探索更可行的解方。

好醫生服務醫療院所，以台大體系7人最多，其次為國軍體系6人（含三軍總醫院5人、國軍花蓮總醫院1人），長庚體系則有4人（林口長庚3人、嘉義長庚1人）。

年齡層多落在50～60歲，是跨界實踐的重要主力。最年輕者為三軍總醫院汀州院區院長吳永燦（46歲），最資深者為前衛福部長林奏延（78歲）。完整名單請見附錄1。

逼近超高齡門檻：跨界成為醫療新能力

台灣內科醫學會理事長、同時也是台大醫學院院長，吳明賢認為，未來的醫學教育必須比以往更強調「跨界」，且在接下來5～10年，這項能力只會變得更加關鍵。

他分析，台灣邁入超高齡社會後，最需要關注的是「非傳染性疾病」（NCDs），常見包括癌症、心血管疾病、糖尿病與慢性呼吸道疾病等等，這些疾病往往牽涉多個系統，病程長、共病多，使治療與照護更加複雜。

人口結構改變也加劇人力吃緊，再加上氣候變遷與災難事件更頻繁，醫療現場面對的變數只增不減。台灣急診醫學會理事長許建清指出，要回應全面升級的未來挑戰，醫師就必須具備跨界的思維與能力。

台灣外科醫學會理事長蔡建松也強調，臨床之外的公共事務、教學研究、醫療科技、資訊管理等領域，同樣需要醫師投入，否則判斷與決策難以到位。年輕醫師若有條件，更應獲得支持跨界參與，把新視角與創意帶回醫療體系。

跨專科、跨社區、跨領域：找出醫療新解方

當「跨界」成為必修，醫療人才永續、全人醫療與病人安全，才有機會找到新的解方。

《康健》記者走遍北中南東，前往29名好醫生服務的醫院實地採訪，呈現他們的醫療理念，以及所肩負的責任與挑戰。也看見他們不分年齡都勇於跨界：有人運用AI與雲端改變醫療模式，有人串連不同專科為病人提供整合照護，也有人走入生技產業、社區或公部門，延伸醫師角色的影響力。

一丶說明：
為提升政府對我國各衛生福利團體與專家於參與國際衛生福利事務之了解，並強化政府於國際衛生事務中可提供的協助，衛生福利部委託財團法人台灣醫界聯盟基金會建置「國際衛生福利事務參與人才資科庫」。

二、個資保護說明：

本次調查將蒐集您的姓名、工作現況或其他得以直接或間接識別您個人之資料，相關資料將提供予衛生福利部內部參考，並按照個人資料保護法、相關法令之規定以及本會隱私權保護政策之規定合理利用。
依個人資料保護法第三條規定，您可就提供資料行使以下權力：查詢或請求閱覽；請求製給複本；請求補充或更正；請求停止蒐集、處理及利用；請求刪除。
本會將善盡資料保管與監督之責任。

三、調查內容：

本次表單，將蒐集我國各單位，以及單位中之專家、學者與會員，參與國際衛生福利事務之概況，亦即如各單位與個人，於2024年1月1日起，在：

We are delighted to announce the launch of the ILDS Dermatology Gallery, a global initiative led by the International League of Dermatological Societies (ILDS) and supported by L’Oréal Dermatological Beauty.

Our mission is to build the world’s most comprehensive and inclusive dermatology image database to support clinicians, educators, and researchers everywhere. The Gallery is free and open access, with no login required for those who are browsing images.

Membership of the ILDS brings together dermatological societies from around the world, creating a unique community working towards our shared vision of ‘Skin Health for the World’. With your help, we can build a gallery that truly reflects the diversity of dermatology across all skin types, ages, body sites, regions, and conditions.

How you can help

We are now inviting you, our ILDS Members, to upload clinical images and help strengthen the Gallery before its wider launch to your members, the dermatology community and clinicians, educators, and researchers worldwide next year.

Every submission will be peer-reviewed by two expert dermatologists to confirm diagnosis and quality. Images accepted for publication in the gallery will be assigned a Digital Object Identifier (DOI), a permanent, citable record recognising contributors’ work. While societies may not need DOIs themselves, they will be a valuable draw for individual dermatologists, educators, and researchers as the Gallery grows.

We know there are many image collections out there, but this one is different. Developed by ILDS and the Department of Dermatology and Skin Science at UBC, the Gallery will be a truly global, inclusive, open-access, peer-reviewed resource built by ILDS Members from around the world and freely available for everyone to use.

About DermLink Grants

The DermLink Grants is an annual programme funded by the International Foundation for Dermatology (IFD). The programme provides support for the International League of Dermatological Societies (ILDS) Member, Affiliated and Observer Societies ("ILDS Members") to undertake or support one-off projects and initiatives to improve the treatment of patients with skin disease in under-served parts of the world.

Through the DermLink Grant scheme, ILDS Members and member-supported applications can apply for funding of up to US$5,000 to undertake one-off projects and initiatives to improve the treatment of patients with skin disease in underserved parts of the world.

We now invite ILDS Members to submit their own or support other applications for consideration in the 2026 DermLink Grant programme.

About DermLink Grants

The DermLink Grants is an annual programme funded by the International Foundation for Dermatology (IFD), the humanitarian arm of the ILDS. The programme provides support for ILDS Member, Affiliated and Observer Societies ("ILDS Members") to undertake or support one-off projects and initiatives to improve the treatment of patients with skin disease in under-served parts of the world.

Our 2025 DermLink grant scheme was a huge success, which saw many high-quality applications received from a variety of projects around the world. We were delighted to be able to award 14 projects in the 2025 grant scheme, and you can find out more about the 2025 recipients here.

We now invite ILDS Members to submit their own or support other applications for consideration in the 2026 DermLink Grant programme.

Historic resolution ‘Skin Diseases as a Global Public Health Priority’ approved at the 78th World Health Assembly (WHA)

We are delighted to share the historic news that the ‘Skin Diseases as a Global Public Health Priority’ resolution was approved at the 78th World Health Assembly (WHA), marking a powerful turning point for the 2 billion people worldwide affected by skin conditions.

Proposed by Côte d'Ivoire, and co-sponsored by Micronesia (Federated States of), Nigeria, Togo, China, Egypt and Colombia, the resolution, adopted by member states of the WHA on Saturday 24 May 2025.

Through our global society, we now call on member states, regulators, NGOs, donors and other stakeholders to work together to implement the resolution and transform access to skin health services globally.

Invitation to Support Global Chinese Dermatology Summit (GCDS) 2025

Welcome to GCDS 2025

Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the Local Organizing Committee, I would like to announce that the Global Chinese Dermatology Summit 2025 will be held on 5 – 7 September 2025 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. This is the first time for the four organizing parties, the Hong Kong College of Dermatologists, the Hong Kong Society of Dermatology and Venereology, Department of Medicine of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Department of Medicine of the University of Hong Kong, to join hands to organize this Summit in Hong Kong.

Half-day workshops are planned on the first day to equip delegates with more basic knowledge and techniques. It will then be followed with a 2-day meeting covering symposia on various aspects of emerging therapies in Eczema and Psoriasis, new treatments on infectious diseases in dermatology, paediatric dermatology, Acne and Rosacea. Of course, new development in aesthetic medicine and emerging laser and energy-based technologies will also be covered. World-known experts from all over the world will be invited to give lectures. This is a great occasion for delegates to gather the latest market intelligence and achievements, exchange their experience and expertise.

Children's Dermatology Life Quality Index (CDLQI) app

CDLQI: The Official App

We wanted to let you (and the Taiwanese Dermatological Association members) know about a new free Cardiff University app. We recently released the Official Children’s Dermatology Life Quality Index (CDLQI) App, free to download as the “CDLQI: The Official App” from the Apple and Android stores.

The App includes both the text-only and the text-plus-cartoon versions. The App is appropriate for 4 to 16 year-olds with or without parental help.

This very simple App gives an instant CDLQI score and gives the meaning of the score. The ten most recent results are stored and displayed. The data is confidential and remains only on the individual smart phone. It is not shared with anyone else.

We think that this may be of interest to members of the Taiwanese Dermatological Association, and wonder if this is something that you could inform them about? We would be most grateful for any help in informing dermatologists and patients about this App.

一丶說明：
為提升政府對我國各衛生福利團體與專家於參與國際衛生福利事務之了解，並強化政府於國際衛生事務中可提供的協助，財團法人台灣醫界聯盟基金會（以下簡稱本會）受衛生福利部委託，向我國各衛生福利團體、醫療機構與學術機構，蒐集我國團體與專家於國際衛生事務之參與情況，並建立「國際衛生福利事務參與人才資科庫」。

二、個資保護說明：

本次調查將蒐集您的姓名、工作現況或其他得以直接或間接識別您個人之資料，相關資料將提供予衛生福利部內部參考，並按照個人資料保護法、相關法令之規定以及本會隱私權保護政策之規定合理利用。
依個人資料保護法第三條規定，您可就提供資料行使以下權力：查詢或請求閱覽；請求製給複本；請求補充或更正；請求停止蒐集、處理及利用；請求刪除。
本會將善盡資料保管與監督之責任。

三、調查內容：

本次表單，將蒐集我國各單位，以及單位中之專家、學者與會員，參與國際衛生福利事務之概況，亦即如各單位與個人，於2023年1月1日起，在：

世界衛生組織(World Health Organization, WHO)
與世界衛生維織建立正式關係（Official Relations)之國際非政府組織

We are reaching out to you as, on behalf of the EADV Honours and Awards Committee, chaired by Prof. Asja Prohić, we are pleased to offer several scholarship opportunities.

The Imrich Sarkany Non-European Memorial Scholarship offers a 1000 EUR travel stipend, a waived registration for the 2025 Spring Symposium, and a complimentary EADV membership for the entire year of 2026. The growth and recognition opportunities that come with these benefits are truly exceptional!
→ This scholarship will be awarded to one selected applicant for each non-European country (max 30 awardees).

Criteria for Scholarship Applications

We are looking forward to publishing the next ILDS Member Initiatives Directory 2024 and wanted to remind our valued ILDS Members of the deadline to submit articles for inclusion in the new edition.

As previously mentioned, one of the ILDS’ overall aims is to promote the sharing and exchange of information between ILDS Member organisations in order to educate and empower fellow dermatologists and their Societies globally. The Directory contributes to that aim by presenting a broad range of approaches so we can share key projects and learnings across the following themes:

The future of dermatology: threats and opportunities
What are the truly unmet needs in dermatology?
Access to dermatologic health and medical skin treatment and care
Training and education
The scope and challenges of evidence-based care
Global volunteerism: Addressing the challenges in global and national skin health
The future of dermatology as a discipline

Discover previous editions of the Member Initiatives Directory

The first directory (available here) was published and shared at the World Skin Summit in 2018 and included contributions from 34 ILDS Members.

The 2023 edition launched to coincide with the World Congress of Dermatology and showcased projects, programmes and activities from 25 ILDS Members from around the world.

The creative and informative initiatives featured in both editions are representative of the inspiring work that dermatologists and their societies undertake globally every day.

In order to promote this amazing work among colleagues, peers and beyond, we would like to publish this inspirational directory on an annual basis. This will allow ILDS Members to provide updates on previous projects or share news of recent accomplishments.

We look forward to receiving your article and collaborating with you to create another inspiring Member Initiatives Directory.

Articles should be no more than 750 words including references and you may also submit up to three images for consideration (not all maybe used depending on word count/space available).

Please find below some exciting news from the International Alliance of Global Health Dermatology (GLODERM) regarding a call for applications for the GLODERM Mentee | Class of 2024-2025 Mentorship Programme.

The International Alliance of Global Health Dermatology (GLODERM) was established in 2018 by the International Foundation of Dermatology (IFD), the ILDS' humanitarian arm). GLODERM brings together a unique community of dermatology professionals with a focus on Global Health Dermatology. Connecting these individuals, at all career stages, who are passionate about the advancement of skin health in resource-limited communities, locally and globally is central to GLODERM’s mission.

GLODERM Mentorship Programme

The Mentorship Programme is a cornerstone of GLODERM’s sustainable and integrated approach to improving dermatologic clinical care, education, research, policy, and advocacy. The programme brings together Mentor-Mentee Pairs from all over the world to share knowledge and grow the skills needed for Mentees to become leaders. APPLICATIONS ARE NOW OPEN to become a GLODERM Mentee - Class of 2024–2025

The Mentorship Programme will bring together successful mentee applicants, who either live or work in resource-limited settings, with global health dermatology experts for a one-on-one mentorship experience lasting 12 months.

The aim of the programme is to enhance mentee skills relevant to global health dermatology, including:

Capacity building
Setting up programmes
Leadership development
Building a career that incorporates global and/or community health

We hope mentees can grow their skills needed to become future change-makers!

Deadline for application submission: 20 March 2024

Further guidance including preview essay questions and a video from Dr Esther Freeman can be found within the application form and on the GLODERM website.

Please note, this programme is not for medical students and will not be focused on clinical skills - this programme is designed to enhance the leadership and professional skills of mentees on an eligible dermatology pathway. Further details on this criteria can be found in the application form.

2022 KSID-JSID-TSID scholarship announcement (TSID)

This is to inform your society of a scholarship opportunity for dermatologists under 45 years of age from your country. After skipping this year’s annual meeting due to COVID-19, the Korean Society for Investigative Dermatology (KSID) plan to re-organize a KSID-JSID-TSID Frontier Symposium session during our 2022 meeting and provide a platform for young dermatologists from KSID, JSID and TSID to present their research. It will be a 2-hour session with 6 speakers, 2 from each society, and 20 minutes (15 min talk and 5 min discussion) will be allotted for each speaker. It is part of KSID’s ongoing effort to promote scientific advancement and networking amongst the 3 Societies. Scholarship winners will be selected after a review of applications with abstracts. To the selected applicants, KSID will provide cash support of USD 500, free registration, and lodging of up to 3 nights. This is a hybrid meeting and in case the scholarship awardee cannot physically attend the conference, a cash support (USD 500) and free registration will be provided. The meeting will be conducted in English.

The meeting to which this scholarship will be applied is KSID’s annual meeting which will be held on March 26 and 27, 2022 in Seoul. Application deadline is Jan. 26, 2022. Qualified applicant should send the following documents to Professor Hei Sung Kim, Director of International Affairs of KSID, at hazelkimhoho@gmail.com.
